3 Firefighters Injured in La Palma Blaze
Three firefighters were injured Wednesday evening extinguishing a fire that gutted a La Palma home.
Firefighter Dough Birckell suffered second-degree burns to his face, while Tim Adams sustained lacerations to his hands and Jerry Neuroth dislocated his knee battling the blaze in the 7900 block of Sunflower Lane.
Damage to the two-story home and its contents was estimated at $200,000, according to Dennis Shell, a spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority.
The owner, Camilla Smith, 47, was not at home when the fire broke out, Shell said.
The blaze, which started shortly after 6:30 p.m., burned for 25 minutes before 35 firefighters put it out, Shell said.
Investigators still are trying to determine what caused the fire.
