Channeling the Mayflower

Share

Campbell Soup Co. recently commissioned a telephone poll to find out what people thought the Pilgrims would enjoy at a present-day Thanksgiving.

Hmm. Good question. About the only dish they might actually recognize on our Thanksgiving tables would be mince pie, but that, along with quite a bit else, was apparently not on the multiple-choice list. Anyway, bottom line: 39% figured the Pilgrims would go for Green Bean Bake, a recipe introduced in 1955 by a certain brand of cream of mushroom soup. Coincidence?

Faux Turkey

At Thanksgiving, vegetarians can eat a vegan dinner called Tofurky: enough tofu “turkey breast,” tempeh-wild rice drummettes, mushroom gravy and cranberry-walnut dressing to serve eight. A percentage of the profits is donated to the Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey Program. (But does your adopted turkey write you every week?) Tofurky is available at a lot of health food stores, or you can order from (888) 863-8759: $56.95 (shipped frozen; should order to arrive Tuesday before Tofurky Day).
