After enduring pounding rain for the past couple of days, Orange County can expect dramatically improved weather over the weekend, forecasters said.

Weather experts are predicting mostly sunny skies with lows in the mid-50s and highs in the low 70s throughout the weekend.

“It’s going to be a nice weekend,” said Mark Mulholland, a meteorologist for WeatherData Inc., which forecasts weather for The Times.

The tail of a major Pacific storm, called a “Pineapple Express” because it tapped into ocean moisture near Hawaii, continued to dump rain Friday across Orange County. On Friday, Anaheim received 1.39 inches of rain, Santa Ana 1.24 inches, and El Toro 1.49 inches, Mulholland said.

“It’s a pretty good amount of rain for Orange County,” he said.

The storm drove season-to-date rainfall totals well above average. In Santa Ana, the normal amount of rain to date is 1.47 inches. But by Friday, Santa Ana already had 3.57 inches.
