One man was being held in Ventura County Jail on two felony counts of driving under the influence of alcohol after he wrecked his car on the Pacific Coast Highway in south Oxnard, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 4 p.m. Saturday north of Pleasant Valley Road.

The driver, whom the California Highway Patrol identified as Alejandro Rodriguez, 23, of Oxnard, walked away with minor injuries. But the passenger, 24-year-old Martin Gonzales of Oxnard, is in critical condition at Ventura County Medical Center with head, chest and abdominal injuries, authorities said.

Rodriguez entered northbound PCH from Pleasant Valley Road at high speed and veered off the road into the center divider, officials said. The car spun around and the passenger side slammed into a eucalyptus tree.

On Sunday, Rodriguez was being held on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing injury. Authorities say Rodriguez had a blood-alcohol level above .08 at the time of the crash.

Bail was set at $10,000, said a jail spokeswoman.
