City Officials Hail Capitol’s Plan to Stay at Landmark Site
Armed with a federal government promise of a $3.8-million grant, Los Angeles city officials on Monday celebrated Capitol Records’ decision to remain at its landmark Hollywood location.
At its annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony, Capitol officials showed off their newly constructed lobby and outlined details of their renovation and expansion plans.
The Commerce Department grant, from a pool of funds earmarked for commercial zones hit hard in the January 1994 Northridge earthquake, will go toward acquiring land and building a high-security parking structure next to Capitol’s famed stacked-disc headquarters on Vine Street.
Mayor Richard Riordan and Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg hailed Capitol’s decision to remain in Hollywood as an important step in efforts to restore Hollywood as the heart of the nation’s entertainment industry.
