Council Members to Share Mayor’s Job Until Election

The mayor’s job in Inglewood will soon become a game of musical chairs. Ed Vincent, the mayor since 1982, is leaving that position to become a state assemblyman Dec. 2.

Because municipal elections will not be held until April 1, the mayor’s job will be split among three of the four council members, who will take turns.

From Dec. 2 until the end of the year, Mayor Pro Tem Curren Price will take over. Councilman Garland Hardeman will be the mayor during all of January, followed by Price in February and Councilman Jose Fernandez in March.

Councilwoman Judy Dunlap was not included in the rotation because several months ago she was barred from talking with the city manager and has to address all inquiries to the mayor, city officials said. The censure was invoked after she allegedly made unfounded accusations of racism against the city manager.
