UCLA Backup Buck Transferring

Share

Steve Buck, a backup UCLA quarterback from Alta Loma, will transfer at the end of the fall quarter, Bruin Coach Bob Toledo said Monday.

Buck has not decided where he will go, but Toledo said that it will probably be a Division I-AA school, where Buck can play without having to sit out a transfer season. He had used up his redshirt season as a freshman in 1994 and was fourth team and did not play in 1995.

Buck, a 6-foot-5, 200-pounder, is the second quarterback to leave UCLA since the arrival of Cade McNown, who won the starting job as a freshman and threw for more than 2,000 yards this season. Ryan Fien left after last season.

The departure of Buck leaves the Bruins with only McNown and freshman Dylan Aquino as quarterbacks on scholarship. Aquino sat out this season and his football future is in doubt because of a medical problem involving his brain stem and spinal column that will require surgery.

Also, Thousand Oaks High quarterback Scott McEwen has said he will attend UCLA next season.
