An unidentified woman was killed Friday morning after reportedly jumping in front of a car on the westbound Foothill Freeway, Los Angeles police officials said.

The incident occurred about 7:15 a.m. near the Terra Bella Street overpass, west of the Osborne Street exit ramp, where the woman was struck by a single vehicle.

Police said the death was being investigated as a suicide.

California Highway Patrol officers closed the westbound side of the freeway for more than two hours after the incident, causing major delays during the morning commute.

“Witnesses indicate that she purposely stepped into traffic from the side of the freeway,” said Det. Frank Bishop of the LAPD’s Foothill Division. “Paramedics took her to a hospital, where she died.”

Bishop said police were asking for the public’s help in identifying the victim, who was described as a white female, about 40 years old, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and 130 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Foothill Division at (818) 756-8861.
