More than 500 people in Southern California were involved in traffic accidents Monday outside of Ventura County, including a collision with a big-rig truck that killed three men from Fillmore.

The worst accident of the soggy day was on California 126, about two miles outside the Santa Clarita city limits, where three men were killed when their car collided head-on with a truck.

The crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m., just west of Chiquito Canyon Road, on a portion of the two-lane highway known locally as “blood alley” because of its history of fatal wrecks. Details of the accident were not available, but the California Highway Patrol said Monday’s rainstorms were a factor. The three Fillmore victims, whose identities were withheld pending notification of relatives, authorities said. All three men were 35 years old.

The driver of the truck, Daniel Babineaux, 37, of Ventura, was not injured, CHP officials said.
