County Supervisor Don Saltarelli will discuss the county’s restructuring plan and the prospects for privatizing county services at a panel discussion Thursday sponsored by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Orange County.

The restructuring plan involves the Board of Supervisors’ recent decision to reduce costs by eliminating two county agencies and cutting more than 200 jobs.

Saltarelli also will join Adrian Moore, associate director of economic studies for the Reason Foundation’s Privatization Center, and California Water Service Co. Vice President James L. Good III in a discussion of public-private partnerships at the noon luncheon at the Disneyland Hotel.

California Water Service, the nation’s third-largest water utility, began the private operation of Hawthorne’s municipal water system in February.

In Orange County, Westminster and Garden Grove are reviewing proposals for public-private partnerships for operation of their municipal water systems, said Trudy Wilson, executive director of the county Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

“Everyone’s curious about what’s going to be happening with the county restructuring plan,” said Wilson, whose organization represents more than 300 Orange County businesses. “Any time that an opportunity comes up for the private sector to be involved in county business, we definitely want to take a look at it.”

The cost to attend the luncheon is $20 for chamber members and $25 for nonmembers. Information: (714) 953-4289.
