Toy Drive Plans a ‘Dive With Santa’
Toys for Tots will go to new depths Saturday to help less fortunate children when the Sport Chalet in Oxnard and Channel Islands Divers sponsor a “dive with Santa” toy drive.
The dive is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sport Chalet, 1885 E. Ventura Blvd. Santa Claus will be sitting in his sleigh in the shop’s pool, and donors who bring unwrapped gifts for a teenage boy or girl will be escorted on a scuba dive with Santa by a certified dive instructor. Organizers say shaving equipment and after-shave make good presents for boys, while curling irons, blow dryers and perfume make great gifts for girls.
Divers will receive a photograph of themselves with Santa Claus under water.
Registrations will be accepted at Sport Chalet until the start of the event. Divers 16 and older do not need a parent present; divers under 16 will need to bring a parent on the day of the dive.
Everyone who dives should bring a swimsuit and towel.
