City Not ‘Forgettable,’ Irked Official Says

Share

Like the title of the hit record, “unforgettable” is the way to describe Cypress, according to Councilman Walter K. Bowman.

That’s why Bowman was irked by Newsweek magazine’s Dec. 9 barb about his city. In a cover story about golfer Tiger Woods, 20, who grew up in the city and learned to play golf there, the magazine described Cypress as:

“A forgettable suburb 35 miles southeast of Los Angeles, as far from the ostentatious wealth of Southern California golf meccas as you can get and still see palm trees.”

Bowman, being honored this week during a City Council meeting for his recently completed term as mayor, used the occasion to hurl a rebuttal at Newsweek’s description.

“Contrary to what you may see in some news media, this is not a forgettable city,” Bowman said. “It’s a very nice community.”
