3 Held in Drive-By Attack on 2 Men

An Oxnard man and two juveniles were in custody Friday after their arrests for allegedly shooting at two men in a drive-by attack.

David Gonzales, 21, and two juveniles shot at 29-year-old Avery McCoy and 28-year-old Abdur Rushdan about 10:20 p.m. Thursday while the pair were walking on Charles Street in Oxnard, according to an Oxnard police report.

As the car was driven alongside the men, the right front passenger leaned out over the roof of the car with a rifle and fired, police said. McCoy was shot in the arm, while Rushdan escaped injury.

A short time later, police stopped Gonzales and the two juveniles riding in a car that fit the description of the vehicle used in the shooting. Police found a rifle and handgun inside the vehicle.

Gonzales was arrested on five counts of assault with a firearm and five counts of shooting from a moving vehicle. He is being held in Ventura County Jail with bail is set at $20,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday. The juveniles are awaiting arraignment at Ventura County Juvenile Hall.
