Hart’s Last-Second Heroics Run Out in Second Overtime

Marc Edwards scored five points in the second overtime to lead Palisades High to an 82-75 victory over Hart on Saturday night in the championship game of the Beverly Hills tournament.

Hart (6-2) forced overtime with a three-point basket by guard J.T. Stotts with three seconds to play to tie the score, 64-64.

Hart extended the game to a second overtime with a 12-foot shot from the lane by Jeff Whitmore with six seconds left to pull the Indians even, 71-71.

Stotts led Hart with 22 points. Forward Cory Johnson added 19 points and nine rebounds. Hart made 22 of 24 free throws.

Palisades (8-1) was led by center Vejas Anaya, who scored 30 points. Palisades rallied from a 34-10 second-quarter deficit to cut the Indians’ advantage to 36-22 at halftime.

Palisades cut Hart’s lead to 46-45 after three quarters.

In other games:

Canoga Park 94, Beverly Hills 75--Carloes Harper scored 29 points and center David Redmond added 23 to lead the Hunters (6-3) to a third-place finish. Canoga Park outscored the Normans, 30-19, in the third quarter to build a 16-point lead.

Cleveland 79, Ventura 76--Ventura rallied from a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter, but Cleveland’s Mike Shultz scored four of his 19 points in overtime of the fifth-place game. Donald Holt also scored 19 for the Cavaliers.

Chris Gallagher had 28 points for Ventura (2-2).

Buena 82, Venice 58--Ryan Fay scored 23 points and T.J. Stafford had 19 points and 10 assists for the Bulldogs (4-3) in the seventh-place game.

Agoura 50, Loyola 47--John Barry had 20 points for Agoura in a consolation game.
