Agency Seeks Senior Peer Counselors

Share

The Jewish Family Service of Ventura County wants to train as many as 40 volunteers to serve as peer counselors for its “Senior to Senior Counseling Program,” which provides in-home information and referral services to elders suffering from depression, isolation, loneliness and family problems.

Volunteers age 55 and older would receive 16 hours of training over eight weeks from a licensed professional, according to Pamela Stine, spokeswoman for the organization.

Upon completion of training, counselors would be assigned three or four clients, and meet with each of them for at least an hour per week, Stine said.
