Gophers Too Golden for Alabama State, 114-34

Six Minnesota players scored in double figures as the 15th-ranked Golden Gophers (9-1) set a school record with a 114-34 victory over Alabama State (1-9) at Minneapolis on Monday night.

The margin of victory was the highest in school history and the 34 points were the fewest given up by Minnesota since beating Navy, 68-35, in 1974.

No. 3 Kentucky 105, NC Asheville 51--The Wildcats (9-1) had a season-high 32 assists and committed a season-low eight turnovers in winning its ninth straight game over the Bulldogs (2-5).

No. 8 Utah 77, Wis.-Milwaukee 63--Keith Van Horn scored 22 points and passed the 2,000-point plateau for his career as the Utes (7-1) defeated the Panthers (3-6) in Salt Lake City.

No. 10 Villanova 81, St. Joseph’s 65--Alvin Williams scored 21 points and Howard Brown had a career-high 18 as the host Wildcats (8-1) overcame an eight-point deficit for their first victory against the Hawks (3-3) in the Steve Lappas era.

No. 13 Indiana 89, Butler 84--A.J. Guyton made a three-point shot and two free throws in overtime as the Hoosiers (11-1) deprived the Bulldogs (5-4) of their first victory in Bloomington, Ind., in 94 years.

No. 14 New Mexico 98, Jackson St. 45--Charles Smith had a career-high 31 points to lead the Lobos (9-1) to the 400th career victory for Coach Dave Bliss. Smith, a senior guard, scored 13 of New Mexico’s first 17 points and had 24 in the first half against the Tigers (2-8).

No. 16 Louisville 102, Tennessee State 54--Reserve guard B.J. Flynn led five Cardinals (9-0) in double figures with 17 points and Alvin Sims added 15 in a victory over the Tigers (1-5) at Louisville.

No. 21 Maryland 108, Lafayette 67--Keith Booth scored 28 points and the Terrapins (9-0) held Lafayette (4-5) to three baskets over an 11-minute stretch of the first half at College Park, Md.

Lorenzo Hall had 11 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots as Georgia (8-1) won its sixth in a row, 62-52, over Colorado (7-3) at Athens, Ga. . . . Kansas, Wake Forest, Kentucky, Michigan and Iowa State held the top five spots in the Associated Press poll, with the Jayhawks (10-0) again the No. 1 choice. UCLA dropped out of the poll.
