NONCONFERENCE

* CAL STATE HAYWARD (5-3) at PEPPERDINE (1-8)

Time--7:30.

Radio--KWNK (670).

The Waves will try to end a seven-game losing streak in the game against Division II Hayward, but it may not be that easy. Although the Pioneers are a nonscholarship program, they have four transfers from Division I schools. That includes the starting frontline of 6-foot-10 center Scott Saber, from Nevada, and forwards Lance Broderson and Darrnaryl Stamps, from Texas A&M; and Fresno State, respectively. Broderson has averaged 20 points and nine rebounds since becoming eligible Dec. 16. Hayward has played one Division I team, losing to Southern Utah. Pepperdine ranks last among West Coast Conference teams in every shooting category and has averaged 19.3 turnovers. Still, the Waves’ margin of defeat is only 7.4 points during the losing streak. Center Bryan Hill is averaging 14.1 points and a WCC-leading eight rebounds.
