Last-Second Shot Fails as Chapman Loses
Toby Curto’s three-pointer at the buzzer bounced off the rim as Chapman lost to Richard Stockton (N.J.), 79-76, in a first-round game of the Tiger Cage Classic on Friday at Occidental College.
Chapman (9-2) was behind, 40-36, at halftime, but battled back to take the lead with eight minutes left in the game. However, Richard Stockton regained the lead with five minutes remaining and pushed the lead to five points with just more than one minute remaining.
Reserve Wayemon Powell, who scored 13 points, made three free throws in the final minute to give the Panthers an opportunity to tie the score with the last-second shot.
Chapman (9-2) will play La Crosse (Wis.) at 6 tonight.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Pepperdine 104, Concordia 66--Jodi Sackville scored 21 points and had 13 rebounds in a nonconference victory for Pepperdine (6-4).
