Bylsma, Nurminen Each Provide a Goal

Two unlikely rookie players scored the Kings’ first two goals against the Colorado Avalanche Saturday night at the Forum.

Dan Bylsma’s goal 6:43 into the second period was only his second goal of the season, his other coming Nov. 26 against Edmonton. Kai Nurminen scored his sixth goal of the season and his third since Dec. 12 at the 8:42 mark.

With defenseman Rob Blake on injured reserve for at least four weeks because of a broken right hand, left wing Kevin Stevens took over as team captain against Colorado.

Left wing Jeff Shevalier, who was called up from the Kings’ International Hockey League affiliate in Phoenix on Friday, played in his first NHL game since the 1994-95 season. He played on the line with Vladimir Tsyplakov and Dimitri Khristich.
