A Matter of Definition
The San Gabriel Valley Alliance for the Mentally Ill would like to bring your attention to the misuse of the medical diagnostic term “schizophrenic” [in the phrase “a schizophrenic retreat”] in “Gambol and Gamble” (Weekend Escape, Nov. 24).
You may agree that neither towns nor cities are schizophrenic or suffer from schizophrenia, a brain disease to which the Los Angeles Times unfailingly gives remarkably sensitive and accurate attention.
