Wilson Adds Kurri to Spice Power Play

After threatening in frustration to send the fourth line out on the power play, Coach Ron Wilson’s only move Sunday was to put Jari Kurri back on the first unit during practice, replacing Kevin Todd.

The Duck power play, fourth-best in the NHL during November, hasn’t scored a goal in four games, going 0 for 15.

Kurri adds a skilled veteran touch to a unit that has Paul Kariya and Dmitri Mironov at the points and Teemu Selanne and Brian Bellows taking the other positions.

“We know what we have to do. We just have to go do it,” said Kariya, a player Wilson wants to see taking more shots from the point.

Ottawa General Manager Pierre Gauthier was previously the Ducks’ assistant general manager, and a number of Senators are former Ducks. Winger Denny Lambert, sent to the minors by the Ducks last season and signed as a free agent in July, has three goals and 14 points. Defenseman Jason York and center Shaun Van Allen, acquired for center Ted Drury and a prospect before the season, each have eight points. Goalie Ron Tugnutt, an original Duck, has played seven games in relief of Damian Rhodes and another original Duck, defenseman Sean Hill, is out for the season after injuring his knee.
