Oksiuta Will Play in Wilson’s New Lineup

Share

Right wing Roman Oksiuta, sidelined because of a groin injury since Jan. 23, will be in the lineup tonight as Coach Ron Wilson searches for more scoring depth. Wilson also will break up his top line of Paul Kariya, Steve Rucchin and Teemu Selanne.

Nine of the Ducks’ last 20 goals have been scored by the Kariya-Rucchin-Selanne line. Wilson hopes their skills will help others break out of scoring slumps.

The second line of Brian Bellows, Jari Kurri and Joe Sacco, who has replaced the injured Kevin Todd, has been particularly ineffective. Since Jan. 1, Bellows has only four goals and Kurri and Sacco one each. Todd last scored on Dec. 1.

“We’ve played 53 games and I can’t keep waiting for other guys to score,” Wilson said. “We’ve probably got the second-best line in hockey, but it’s just not enough.”

Friday marked the anniversary of the trade that brought Selanne to Anaheim from Winnipeg. The Ducks are 37-37-9 since the deal. “Teemu came here and was a calming influence,” goalie Guy Hebert said. “He kind of brought the fun back to the game.”
