Work on Library Parking Lot Begins

It’s little more than an expanse of moist earth dotted with red-tipped surveyor stakes, but to the patrons and employees of Moorpark Library, a 33-space parking lot, where construction began Tuesday, looked like the promised land.

“We’ve been waiting for this for a long time,” said Laurie Dunning, branch manager. “We don’t care about the mess and we don’t care about the noise at this point. We just want the parking lot.”

Officials say the parking lot will take about three months to complete, depending on the weather.

Work on the small lot, which will be landscaped and include lights, represents completion of a library expansion project that took six years and more than $450,000 to complete. The library grew by 2,700 square feet, adding room for books and shelves and a study room.

“This has been a tremendously long project,” said Keith Jajko, aide to county Supervisor Judy Mikels. “This is the last step of what I call the Moorpark Library Expansion Saga. It’s going to make a lot of people happy.”
