City Wants to Rezone Odd Parcel

Share

What to do with a parcel of land next to MainPlace/Santa Ana will be the topic for a public hearing at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

Officials say the property, between the mall and the Santa Ana Freeway, is too small to be developed but is large enough to have become an eyesore. The property is now zoned for commercial use. City planners are recommending that it be rezoned as open space.

The land, which is owned by Caltrans, is an oddly shaped, highly visible remnant from a recent freeway widening project. The parcel totals 43,852 square feet and is more than 1,000 feet long, which makes it an unlikely candidate for development, a city planning report states.

A change of zoning would ensure that it remains undeveloped.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza.
