Golden West Beats Mt. SAC in 11 Innings

Ken Sundstrom’s two-out single in the top of the 11th inning scored Casey Flanigan with the winning run as Golden West beat Mt. San Antonio, 7-6, in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday at Mt. SAC.

Kevin Stuart (2-0) pitched three innings in relief to earn the victory. He also helped Golden West (8-5) rally from a 4-0 deficit, hitting a three-run homer to highlight a four-run fifth inning.

In other nonconference games:

Cypress 10, Long Beach City 3--Junior Rodriguez was three for five, including a double and a triple, and drove in two runs for Cypress (14-2), which led, 6-0, after three innings. Freshman Brian Snapp earned his first victory, striking out four and giving up one hit and one run in five innings.

Rancho Santiago 4, Cerritos 4 (12)--Josh Reding had three hits, including a double and two runs scored, and Heath Bell pitched four innings of shutout relief, allowing one hit while striking out six for visiting Rancho Santiago (12-1-1).

It was only the second tie in 16 years for Rancho Santiago Coach Don Sneddon.

In nonconference golf:

Orange Coast 381, Cerritos 386, Cypress 408, Golden West 414--Medalist Keith Achman made three birdies and shot two-under 69 at Rio Hondo Country Club for Orange Coast (8-4). Cypress’ Rick Burnett finished second, shooting a 72.

In nonconference softball:

Irvine Valley 2, Los Angeles Valley 0--Jennifer Cessna (5-1) pitched a two-hitter, striking out seven and walking one for Irvine Valley (9-2). Tami Harris went three-for-three with a triple and an RBI for the Lasers.

San Diego Mesa 10, Golden West 1--Diana Serrano had a run-scoring triple for the Rustlers (2-1-1).

In nonconference women’s tennis:

Orange Coast 5, Palomar 4--Cami Erickson and Whitney Gilliam lost their singles matches, but they teamed to win at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-4, in a meeting of unbeaten teams. Orange Coast (4-0) won all three doubles matches.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:

Orange Coast 3, San Diego Mesa 1--Kevin Reid had 27 kills and Josh Richardson added 22 in the 15-13, 9-15, 15-11, 15-10 victory for Orange Coast (3-0, 1-0).
