End of an Era for Olive Fire Station
Residents of the unincorporated community of Olive will say goodbye to their historic fire station this weekend, and they are inviting all of Orange County to the farewell party.
Built in 1944, the station house at 8663 Orange-Olive Road will be demolished to make way for a housing development.
The force that has staffed it by being on call for $7 an hour will be replaced with full-time professionals from the Orange County Fire Authority.
But first they will celebrate with an end-of-an-era party from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the firehouse.
Visitors will be able to tour the station, see a firefighting-apparatus display and feast at a barbecue being provided free of charge by the Olive Volunteer Firefighters.
Community members also will open a time capsule that was placed in the station on its opening day.
