College Resumes Its Original Name

Share

Rancho Santiago College’s name has been changed back to its original: Santa Ana College.

The college district’s trustees took the action toward converting the school to a multicollege institution.

Officials said that by July 1 the district will be operating two separate colleges. A few weeks ago, the board chose the name Santiago Canyon College for its Orange campus, formerly a satellite school.

The Santa Ana campus went by the city’s name from its inception in 1915 until 1985, when the Orange campus opened. Officials changed the Santa Ana campus’ name to Rancho Santiago, but many students and residents continued calling it Santa Ana College.

“I’m sure many of our alumni who have always referred to this place as Santa Ana College . . . are excited to have their college name back,” said Edward Hernandez, executive vice chancellor of the district.
