CSUN Will Take the Money and Run to Hawaii

Cal State Northridge reached an agreement on Tuesday to collect a $90,000 guarantee to play a football game at Hawaii on Sept. 6, but the Matador schedule still might have a 12th game added, Athletic Director Paul Bubb said.

Because games out of the continental United States do not count against the 11-game limit, Northridge is still looking for a home opponent--probably a Division II or III team--for one of two open dates.

Northridge’s nonconference schedule includes Boise State on Aug. 30, Hawaii and New Mexico State on Sept. 20. All are Division I-A opponents and all the games are on the road.

“This is as tough a I-AA schedule as anyone in the country,” Bubb said. “And I would not have done it without [Coach Jim Fenwick’s] feedback.”

In the clear: Contrary to a published report, the Simi Valley boys’ basketball team is not being investigated by the Southern Section.

“There is no investigation going on now about Simi Valley,” Commissioner Dean Crowley said.

However, officials from the Simi Valley Unified School District have asked Crowley for input regarding the eligibility of students who attend the new Santa Susana Magnet School.

Freshman forward Branduinn Fullove, who lives outside the Simi Valley school district, attends the magnet school and plays basketball at Simi Valley. Crowley said there are no problems with Fullove’s eligibility.
