Laker update--Their final visit to suburban Landover, with the Bullets moving to a new building in Washington next season, comes as the Lakers have lost four of five. Nick Van Exel has made only nine of 34 shots the last three games and is down to 42.5% the last 15 contests and 40% for the season, but he has also stepped up since the loss of Shaquille O’Neal by averaging 10.3 assists in the six games against only two turnovers. That ratio would have been even more impressive, but he played only 29 minutes one night because the Lakers were so far ahead, though he still recorded nine assists.

Bullet update--The last game against the Lakers, Feb. 2 at the Forum, resulted in a 30-point loss for the Bullets. After one more game, another blowout, Jim Lynam was fired as coach. Bernie Bickerstaff is 3-5 since leaving the Denver Nuggets’ front office to replace him.
