Burrell, Holdip Lift Antelope Valley

John Burrell scored 25 points and Tomay Holdip added 15 to pace Antelope Valley College over Trade Tech, 100-61, in a Southern California Regional first-round game Saturday night at Antelope Valley.

Michael Hamelin scored 12 points and Trevor Beal had 11 points and seven assists for Antelope Valley (28-4), ranked No. 2 in the state.

In other first-round games:

Valley 67, Victor Valley 63--Carlton Frasier scored 10 of his 11 points in the second half to help the Monarchs (24-9) rally from a 26-19 halftime deficit in a game at Valley.

The last time Valley trailed was 50-47 with 6:03 remaining.

With 11 seconds left, Tyreese Basey (nine points) made a layup for a 66-63 lead and Frasier converted the second of two free-throw attempts with four seconds left.

Leon Brisport led the Monarchs with 12 points and Gianandrea Marcaccini added 10.

Larry Treadwell scored 22 points for Victor Valley (14-15).

Ventura 107, Rio Hondo 78--Eddie Miller scored 23 points for Ventura and teammate Chris Clayton added 19 in a game at Ventura.

With 12:00 to play, Ventura held a 71-69 lead before Miller and James Lee took over for the Pirates (25-7), the two-time defending state champions.

Miller, a former Chatsworth High standout, scored 14 points in the second half and Lee scored 13.

Melvin Farmer, the Foothill Conference scoring champion, had 33 points for Rio Hondo (15-18).

Irvine Valley 76, Glendale 62--The Lazers (26-7) outrebounded Glendale, 53-34, and held the Vaqueros to 31% field-goal shooting.

Ryan Hackett had 24 points and 12 rebounds for Glendale (13-19).
