Moseley Leads Crenshaw to Division I Final

Naila Moseley scored 17 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out eight assists, leading the Crenshaw High girls’ basketball team to a 65-46 victory over Crescenta Valley on Thursday night in the Division I Southern California Regional semifinals at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Danielle Rainey scored 13 points and Jovanae St. Cyr added 11 for Crenshaw (25-3), which will face City Section rival Harbor City Narbonne in the regional finals Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Pond of Anaheim.

Moseley scored six points in the fourth quarter, when the Cougars outscored Crescenta Valley, 21-12, to break open the game.

Michelle Greco, who scored 54 points for Crescenta Valley (29-4) on Tuesday at Porterville Monache, led her team with 19 points.

“We didn’t alter our defense for Greco. We just stayed with what we’ve been doing all year,” Rainey said. “We stayed in front of her and didn’t let her penetrate.”

Harbor City Narbonne 60, Ventura Buena 55--Jessica Cheeks scored 24 points, leading visiting Narbonne (23-5) to an upset of top-seeded Buena (27-3) in a Division I semifinal.

The Gouchos outscored Buena, 19-14, in the fourth quarter.

El Cajon Christian 62, San Diego Horizon 43--Alyssa Fredrick contributed 22 points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots, leading the Patriots (28-1) to a Division V victory at Horizon (23-9).

Playa del Rey St. Bernard 57, Cerritos Valley Christian 51--Tonda Williams scored the go-ahead basket with one minute remaining in the game and the Vikings (24-6) outscored Valley Christian (27-4), 6-0, down the stretch to advance to the Division IV final at the Pond on Saturday.

Nicole Monette led St. Bernard with 17 points. Tandee Taylor led Valley Christian with 17 points.

Burbank Bellarmine-Jefferson 71, Santa Ynez 59--Bell-Jeff received unexpected and much-needed points from Laura Lunsford and Cindy Contero in the second half to help defeat Santa Ynez (25-4) in a division IV semifinal at Bell-Jeff.
