Duck update--They’ve been caught from behind for ties in their last two games but still have the NHL’s longest current unbeaten streak at 11 games. “How can I be displeased?” Coach Ron Wilson asked. “We’ve gone 11 games without losing, and it’s almost like we’ve lost five in a row because we have two ties. We didn’t play our best, but if you don’t play well and still get a point. . . .” Goalie Guy Hebert will start for the 37th time in 38 games, and newly acquired forwards Richard Park and Mark Janssens are expected to be in the lineup.

King update--After suffering only two losses through a nine game stretch to get back into the playoff race, the Kings lost consecutive games to St. Louis and Calgary and now need a small miracle to not miss the postseason for the fourth consecutive season. They will be without forward Ian Laperriere, who will have season-ending shoulder surgery next week, and possibly enforcer Matt Johnson, who has missed the last two games because of a back injury. Forward Dimitri Khristich has two goals and three points in his last two games. The Kings have given up 14 short-handed goals this season.

The series--No one has beaten the Ducks since the Kings’ 3-1 victory over their local rivals Feb. 20 at the Forum. In the previous meeting Jan. 25 at the Forum, the Kings--inspired by Duck radio analyst Pat Conacher’s assertion that the Kings were “going nowhere”--pulled out a 2-2 tie on Kai Nurminen’s third-period goal. The Ducks won the first meeting of the season Nov. 8 at the Pond, taking a 7-4 decision in a game the Kings’ Ray Ferraro called a “team flop.”
