Angel Fans Quickly Find Midseason Form

Nice job, Bill Bavasi and Tony Tavares. You finished last season with one of the five worst pitching staffs in the history of baseball. Then you let Finley get another year older and Langston another year farther away from his good fastball. Then you let the payroll dictate that Abbott was good enough to be the No. 3 starter. And to plug the gaps in the rotation, you made bold moves for Mark Gubicza (nuff said) and Allen Watson (a guy the Giants, with no pitching of their own, were glad to ship out). Oy.
If you’re surprised that your new staff gives up nine runs and 15 hits a game, here’s a tip: Don’t be.

So Bill Bavasi was “seething” over newspaper reports about a possible trade for Rickey Henderson. Well, as a long-suffering Angel fan, I’ve been seething over reports of stupid Angel trades for years. Unfortunately, most of those reports were of trades that had already been completed.
