Sealy Didn’t Choose This Fate

Guard Malik Sealy has the toughest job on the team.

Since many of the top players in the NBA are shooting guards, Sealy usually has a demanding defensive assignment.

Sealy has faced Michael Jordan, Latrell Sprewell and Mitch Richmond.

“I guess it comes with the territory, because I sure didn’t choose it,” Sealy said. “I just happen to be a two [shooting guard] now, and the most talented players happen to be in that position.

“Hopefully everyone understands that this is a team game and we all need to be involved in trying to stop guys, especially the twos of other teams. It’s not just me, they’ve got to go against four other guys out there trying to help me stop them as well.”

The final two weeks of the season probably will determine whether the Clippers secure their first playoff berth in four years.

It won’t be easy.

After playing the two-time NBA champion Houston Rockets twice, the Clippers end the season with games against the Lakers at the Sports Arena on April 18 and the SuperSonics at Seattle on April 19.

“It’s probably the toughest in the league, I wonder why that happened,” Sealy said. “We’ve got to play it. We can complain about it, but it won’t go away. Hopefully teams will look at the tough schedule we’ve got and slack off a bit and that will be their downfall.”
