Lindros, Flyers Take Lumps in 3-3 Tie With Islanders

Neither Eric Lindros nor the Philadelphia Flyers escaped Long Island unscathed.

The Flyers blew a 3-0 lead and were tied by the New York Islanders, 3-3, Saturday night in Uniondale, N.Y. But more importantly, Lindros suffered a bruised tendon in his right foot after a check by Rich Pilon.

Lindros said he had no strength or feeling in his toes.

Not long after Pilon’s penalty, Philadelphia’s 1-0 lead turned into a 3-0 advantage.

John LeClair and Daniel Lacroix scored while the Flyers had the five-minute man advantage.

Trailing, 3-1, the Islanders scored two goals in a 24-second span midway through the final period, Claude Lapointe getting the tying goal at 10:44.

Washington 3, Montreal 1--Rick Tocchet scored twice and goalie Bill Ranford made 28 saves as the Capitals won at Montreal.

The win moved Washington into a tie with Montreal for seventh place in the Eastern Conference.

The loss snapped Montreal’s five-game unbeaten streak.

Florida 3, Buffalo 2--Ray Sheppard scored a goal and assisted on the game-winner as the Panthers defeated the Sabres at Miami.

Florida goalie John Vanbiesbrouck, who raised his record to 25-16-9, stopped 30 shots, including a nice save on a breakaway by Donald Audette.

Phoenix 3, Toronto 0--Nikolai Khabibulin made 33 saves for his league-high seventh shutout of the season, and Jeremy Roenick scored twice as the Coyotes won at Toronto.

Ottawa 5, Boston 4--Steve Duchesne scored two goals and goalie Ron Tugnutt stopped a penalty shot at Boston as the Senators pushed the Bruins deeper into the Atlantic Division cellar.

The Bruins haven’t missed the Stanley Cup playoffs in a record 30 years.

New Jersey 3, Pittsburgh 2--Third-period goals by Dave Ellett and Bobby Holik gave the Devils the victory at Pittsburgh.

Holik broke a 2-2 tie when Pittsburgh defenseman Francois Leroux deflected a rebound directly to him. Holik put a shot over Patrick Lalime’s left shoulder for his 19th goal.

Ellett had tied the score when he beat Lalime from 20 feet.

Vancouver 3, Tampa Bay 2--Markus Naslund scored his 16th goal six minutes into the second period and that turned out to be the winner at Vancouver.
