LAKERS TONIGHT

Share

Opponent--New Jersey Nets.

Site--Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford, N.J.

Time--4:30.

TV--Channel 9.

Radio--KLAC (570).

Records--Lakers 45-23, Nets 21-46.

Record vs. Nets--1-0.

Laker update--Coming off the tough loss at Miami and the disaster at Orlando, the Lakers at least have the chance to regain their momentum since the next seven games are against the Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, Vancouver Grizzlies, Seattle SuperSonics, Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks. All but Seattle would be lottery teams if the season ended today. This ends the five-game trip, the last extended journey of the season, and also marks their fourth game in five nights--if you count Sunday against the Magic.

Net update--Jayson Williams is done for the season because of a thumb injury and so is his bid to unseat Dennis Rodman as rebounding champion. A case can be made for Kerry Kittles as rookie of the year, but the Nets have taken him out of the starting lineup, preferring instead a three-guard alignment of Sam Cassell, Jim Jackson and Kendall Gill.
