Fenoglio Leads Pacifica Past La Quinta

John Fenoglio hit a two-run homer in the fifth and pitched a complete game to help Pacifica defeat La Quinta, 3-2, in a Garden Grove League baseball game Wednesday at La Quinta High.

Fenoglio had three hits and three RBIs and gave up only four hits, one earned run, while striking out six and walking one for the Mariners (5-4, 1-0 in league).

La Quinta, ranked fourth in the Southern Section Division IV preseason poll, is 8-3, 0-1.

Bolsa Grande 7, Los Amigos 5--Reliever Isaac Gonzales earned his first save, working out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth.

With one out, Los Amigos clean-up hitter Rene Camarillo hit a fly ball to short right field, but Bolsa Grande second baseman Sam Baeder made a diving catch and then threw to first to double off the runner and end the game.

Joey Francisco had three hits, scored two runs and stole his 10th and 11th bases for visiting Bolsa Grande (9-2, 1-0). Los Amigos is 3-5, 0-1.

Rancho Alamitos 1, Santiago 0--In his first varsity at-bat, freshman Nate Freitas drove in Fabian Valadez for the only run and Robert Campbell pitched a three-hitter for Rancho Alamitos (4-6, 1-0).
