Moving up: Sophomore Billy Bush and freshman Christina Tolson of Cal State Northridge moved to seventh and eighth on the all-time Matador list in the men’s discus and women’s shotput, respectively, in Saturday’s Northridge Invitational.

Bush placed sixth in the discus with a personal best of 172 feet 2 inches and Tolson finished fourth in the shotput at 47-8.

By the numbers: With the graduation of Paul Diaz, the Mission League pitcher of the year in 1996, St. Francis baseball Coach Bob Evans has been using a staff-by-committee strategy.

The Golden Knights (6-1) used 10 pitchers to open the season 5-0. None of the 10 pitched more than four innings in a game, and Scott Traver led the team with seven innings after five games.

The team earned-run average was just over 5.00 and the staff had combined to allow only seven extra-base hits and no homers.

“We’re definitely going to lead the league in pitching changes,” Evans said. “We don’t have that go-to ace this year.”
