Selanne’s Return Is Possible Tonight

Share

Teemu Selanne is hopeful he can return to the lineup tonight against Chicago after sitting out two games because of a strained muscle in his left side.

His absence has cost the Ducks ground in the Western Conference playoff race--they’re 0-2 without him. Selanne also lost ground in his pursuit of Mario Lemieux in the NHL scoring race but said that isn’t important.

“I think he should be No. 1,” said Selanne, who got an autographed stick from Lemieux before the season.

Selanne had cut Lemieux’s lead to seven points but Lemieux’s five-point game against Montreal gave him 110 points, 12 more than Selanne.

The Ducks recalled Mike Leclerc, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound left wing, from the Baltimore Bandits. Leclerc, 20, who scored 56 points in 71 games with Baltimore this season, was selected in the third round of the 1995 NHL entry draft. He is expected to join the Ducks immediately.
