CSUN to Outline Quake Repair Work

Cal State Northridge President Blenda J. Wilson has scheduled a community briefing Thursday to outline what university officials say should be the last stretch in the recovery from the 1994 Northridge earthquake.
An official from the Federal Emergency Management Agency is expected to attend the briefing, in part to finalize the last phase in the recovery program, said Carmen Ramos Chandler, a university spokeswoman.
“That means that there is light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.
In addition to explaining the details of the reconstruction of the Oviatt Library wings--until recently thought repairable but which college officials now say must be demolished and rebuilt--college officials will be discussing the future of the administration building, the South Library, the University Tower Apartments and the fine arts building, all damaged in the earthquake.
The public briefing will begin at 11 a.m. on the lawn near the west side of the administration building near Vincennes Street and Etiwanda Avenue.
The public may park for free in Student Lot B on the southwest side of the campus on Darby Avenue.
