A 16-year-old girl suspected of stealing a vehicle was booked into Juvenile Hall after leading police on a chase Friday from Simi Valley to Reseda, authorities said.

Authorities did not identify the girl, who lives in Simi Valley, because she is a juvenile. She allegedly walked onto the parking lot of the Oakridge Athletic Club, 2655 Erringer Road, about 9 a.m. and drove off in a Chevrolet Astro van while the car’s owner, Noelle Krowpman of Simi Valley, watched from inside the club, said Simi Valley Police Lt. Ken Tacke.

Krowpman notified police, and a short time later, officers spotted the van heading east on the Ronald Reagan Freeway. With officers in pursuit, the girl drove about 10 miles and exited at Tampa Avenue in Reseda, where the chase continued on surface streets, Tacke said.

The van stopped on Cohasset Street, where the girl tried to leave the scene on foot. She was taken into custody without incident, Tacke said.

She was booked into Juvenile Hall in Ventura on suspicion of auto theft and recklessly evading police, Tacke said.

The investigation is continuing.
