A man allegedly shot at his two dogs Sunday, killing one, police reported.

The shooting occurred in the 8900 block of Burnet Avenue shortly after the man was treated by paramedics for a dog bite.

Paramedics were called to the residence at about 12:30 p.m., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis, because of a report that a man had been bitten by a bull mastiff. The man, who was not identified by authorities, was treated at the scene.

About 1 1/2 hours later, the Los Angeles Police Department got two calls from people in the area saying shots had been fired in the neighborhood. One of the callers said the man at the residence had shot at his two dogs, according to LAPD Det. Steve Yadon.

Yadon said that when officers arrived at the scene, they found the body of one of the dogs.

The man was not arrested, but the Los Angeles Department of Animal Regulation was investigating the shooting, Yadon said.
