Butler Set for Country Club Bout

Lionel Butler, World Boxing Federation heavyweight champion, will fight Arthur Weathers in a 10-round non-title fight as the main event April 17 at the Reseda Country Club.

Also scheduled, Joel Luna Zarate, Mexican junior bantamweight champion, will face Polo Saucedo, North American junior bantamweight champion, in a 10-round bout. Welterweight Horatio Garcia is scheduled to fight on the undercard.

Oscar night: The Country Club will show the world welterweight title fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Pernell Whitaker on April 12. Admission is $20. Information: (818) 881-2568.

Coach resigns: Glen Grago, the Oxnard High boys’ soccer coach for the past eight years, has resigned.

Grago cited a need to spend more time with his family. During his tenure, the Yellowjackets’ best seasons were three third-place finishes in the Channel League.

Reversal: Harvard-Westlake High fell from second to fourth in the latest Southern Section Division III boys’ volleyball poll while another traditional power, Royal, ascended from fifth to second in Division I.

Also in Division I, Thousand Oaks and Quartz Hill debuted at No. 8 and No. 10, while Hoover dropped out of the poll.

In Division II, Newbury Park remained No. 6. In Division III, Campbell Hall fell from seventh to eighth, Providence stayed at No. 9 and Notre Dame dropped out.

Runner-up: M.K. Kanke of Granada Hills placed second in a NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Tour race at Cajon Speedway on Sunday. Kanke, driving a Pontiac, also won the Busch Pole Award for the fast lap, 15.985 seconds, or an average of 84.454 mph. Pole-sitter Bob Lyon of Agua Dulce was fifth and Jerry Cain of Canyon Country was 10th.
