Free agent center Brian Williams said Tuesday night he expects to sign a contract with the Chicago Bulls in the next two days.

The Bulls are looking for a backup center after Bill Wennington ruptured a tendon in his left foot on Saturday.

Williams, 27, told radio station WMVP he expected to sign within the next two days. He worked out with the team this week.

Traded to the Clippers from Denver before the 1995-96 season, Williams opted out of a $2.5-million contract for this season, as was his right, and became a free agent. Williams had knee surgery last fall, and teams backed off signing him.

Lynch started 27 of 41 games and averaged 8.3 points and 6.4 rebounds.

New Jersey Net Coach John Calipari received an official letter of reprimand from team officials 11 days after he called a reporter “a [bleeping] Mexican idiot.”

Calipari, fined a record $25,000 by the NBA on March 26, made the comment to Dan Garcia of the Newark Star-Ledger after a practice March 20. Calipari has apologized, maintaining it was an ill-advised attempt at humor.

The Dallas Mavericks activated shooting guard Sasha Danilovic from the injured list before Tuesday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons.

Danilovic sat out the previous 20 games because of a sprained left ankle. He was acquired from the Miami Heat on Feb. 14 and played only three games for Dallas before he was put on the injured list Feb. 22. He averaged 17.3 points in those three games.
