Three music acts not only appear on the soundtrack album for “Speed II: Cruise Control” but are also in the film. UB40 is featured with a new song, “Tell Me Is It True?” (due as a single at the end of this month); Quincy Jones protegee Tamia sings a new Diane Warren song, “Make Tonight Beautiful,” and plays a passenger on an imperiled ship; and Brazilian singer Carlinhos Brown is also on board. The album, due at the end of May, evoking the Caribbean setting, also features reggae stars Shaggy, Maxi Priest and Jimmy Cliff. . . .

Vanessa Williams will co-star in “Shut Up and Dance,” starting filming next month, and is expected to sing on the soundtrack. Set in the world of Latin dance competitions, the movie will feature tons of music, with new material being commissioned from Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Ruben Blades and other artists from around the world. . . .

David Baerwald, one half of the ‘80s L.A. duo David + David and a co-writer and performer on Sheryl Crow’s breakthrough “Tuesday Night Music Club” album, has been signed to a deal with EMI Records by company president Davitt Sigerson, who produced David + David’s lone album, “Boomtown.” . . .

With Los Lobos gearing up for a tour starting this month, side-project Latin Playboys is doing two songs for “The Brave,” a movie written by, directed by and starring Johnny Depp, which also features score music by Iggy Pop.
