Train Dog Owners

* As I scramble down to remote beaches or skulk into remote corners of open spaces to commit the terrible crime of romping with my obedience-trained, poop-scooped, fetch-addicted dogs, I can’t help wishing there were a few more Margaret Butts around--even if her style is questionable (“She Drops Strong Hints About Dogs Leaving Droppings,” March 16).

If only we could get irresponsible dog owners trained, Orange County could become more like Europe, where dogs are welcomed in most places because owners ensure they’re well-behaved. We might even reach a point, one summer, when every single mile of Orange County’s beaches isn’t reserved exclusively for the dog-less.
