Jordan, Bulls Keep Moving Up

Michael Jordan scored 37 points to move into fifth place on the NBA’s career scoring list and visiting Chicago beat the Orlando Magic, 110-94, Sunday to sweep the season series. Chicago also clinched homecourt advantage in the Eastern Conference.

Jordan moved past Oscar Robertson (26,710) on the career scoring list with 26,726 points.

Washington 120, Boston 114--Chris Webber and Juwan Howard scored 31 points each at Boston as the Bullets continued their playoff surge by handing the Celtics their ninth consecutive loss. Washington moved a half-game ahead of the idle Cleveland Cavaliers for the Eastern Conference’s eighth and final playoff spot.

Indiana 94, Minnesota 83--Rik Smits had 27 points and 11 rebounds at Minneapolis as the Pacers remained two games behind the Bullets and 1 1/2 games behind the Cavaliers for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot and also prevented the Timberwolves from clinching their first playoff berth. The Wolves, however, had a another chance to clinch if Sacramento lost at home to Seattle on Sunday night.

Houston 94, Vancouver 85--The Rockets set a franchise record for road victories, and Charles Barkley’s 28 points left him 17th on the NBA career scoring list. Barkley overtook Hal Greer when he picked up his sixth point with 2:03 left in the first quarter. Barkley, who has 21,608 points, is now less than 200 points behind Larry Bird. The Rockets, 25-13 on the road, surpassed their previous best of 24-13 during the 1992-93 season.
