A driver didn’t even have time to hit the brakes before she ran over a pedestrian on South Coast Highway, police said Thursday.

Shelley Keel Perry, 41, of Texas died at the scene, coroners said.

The 29-year-old driver told police she had been driving south at Aliso Beach on Wednesday night when a man suddenly appeared in the road, police said.

Laguna Beach police had received a phone call four minutes before the accident that a male was running in and out of heavy traffic at Wesley Drive and South Coast Highway. Police do not know if that call was related to Perry.

A second car, driven by a 19-year-old Laguna Beach resident, did not see the pedestrian lying in the road and also ran over him, police said. A third car, driven by an Lake Forest man, hit the victim as well, but did not realize it until he saw blood on his car Thursday morning and called police.

The first two drivers immediately pulled over, and none will face charges, police said.

“There is very poor lighting on that road,” Sgt. Ray Lardie said. “They are all pretty distraught.”
