City Will Consider Community Fair, Business Expo

A proposal for a community fair and business expo will be considered by the City Council next week.

Combining the efforts of several nonprofit groups, business organizations and the city, the event would be sometime in October, Community Development Director Kathy Graham said.

“It will be a partnership with a lot of people who care about the city,” Graham said. “We want to bring it all together over the course of a weekend and have a great time.”

Though a specific program has not yet been determined, Graham said, organizers hope to pattern it after successful fairs in Mission Viejo and Laguna Niguel.

Those cities mix carnival activities such as rides, music and food with business workshops. Local merchants operate booths to help promote their stores and businesses.

“It’s another way that the city can assist in improving the economic health” of Lake Forest, Graham said. “It’s directly related to our strategic plan for economic development.”

Three locations are being considered for the fair: an undeveloped site near Bake Parkway and Trabuco Road; the street and parking lots at Canada Business Park at Lake Forest and Lambert Road; and a shopping center on El Toro Road and Rockfield Boulevard.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 23161 Lake Center Drive. Information: (714) 461-3400.
