MOE BETTER

In his letter last Sunday, Jeffrey Vance praises Charlie Chaplin’s “The Great Dictator” and Chaplin’s satiric portrayal of Hit Howardler. Although it isn’t being shown in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s anti-Nazi film series, I always thought Moe Howard did a better job of lampooning Hitler in the Three Stooges’ “You Nazty Spy,” which was released in 1940, the same year as “The Great Dictator.” After all, which is more representative of the evil that was Hitler: the sensitive, gentle tramp character created by Chaplin, or the brutal, savage moron character created by Moe Howard?
